Michelle Obama on the Economy

Michelle Obama is out on the road trying to talk up votes for the democratic party for the upcoming election.  One of the things she talked about was the economy.  After a jab about the ‘mess’ her husband inherited, a shot at Republicans, and how things are now so much better.

“I’m on the road and he is on the road, because these elections are so important. And it’s important for everyone in this country, all over this country, to understand where we’ve come from because now, less than six years later, with my husband in office, by almost every economic measure, we are better off today than when Barack took office,” Michelle said.

But are we better off?  If one looks at Wall Street, perhaps.  But here are a couple of indicators.

The Workforce participation rate is actually at the lowest it’s been in 37 years at 62.7%.  That is a low number, and one which skews unemployment numbers that the Obama administration, and democrats, love to put forth as a sign that the economy is improving.

A second indicator is the quality of jobs being created.  Even the LA Times has reported the number of jobs created are not the high paying,  career jobs which allow people to support themselves, and perhaps a family.  These jobs are of lower quality, lower paying, hourly wages which make it difficult to make a living for ones self.

Also in this this is a high number of women who have dropped out of the job market.  According to a CNSNEws report the participation rate of women is 56.7%, a number not seen in 26 years.  Add in unemployment among African Americans as around 11% and the indicators might have improved slightly.

Democrats had control of the WH, Senate and House for the two worst years, they still control the WH and Senate, yet all they want to do is blame Republicans.
